If these AIDS-impacted children are not empowered to stand on their own feet, they will become a social burden rather than an asset. Given a chance, many of them can shine, as has been proven with many of the children we have helped over the years, who have now become productive, independent members of society with a sense of social responsibility.
Furthermore, childhood trauma often leaves an indelible mark on a child’s psyche and causes a child to have low self-esteem, become introverted, and lacking in confidence, even depressed, negatively impacting them for the rest of their lives. Every human being deserves to live with dignity. By arresting the downward psychological spiral early on, the children are given a second chance in life.
By helping the children, those AIDS-afflicted parents who are still alive can also benefit. Not only do we have the ability to provide care to them, they can also spend their limited funds on their own healthcare and other immediate needs.
